Lyrical is an expressive classical dance form, predominantly derived from a combination of jazz, ballet and modern dance. It is often performed to music with lyrics, to allow for creative expression and choreography based on conveying the lyrics of the song. Lyrical has a relatively recent history, and has a poetic, expressive quality; often consisting of fluid, continuous, and graceful movements. Elements such as suspension, use of levels and fluidity in movement is often emphasized, as well as being able to express emotion through the whole body. Lyrical requires the use of classical technique, therefore previous training in ballet and jazz training is recommended to support this dance style.
