Ria graduated from the Masters in Teaching program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and has been teaching in the arts for over 10 years. She is an artistic director and dancer for the non-profit dance organization, Culture Shock Toronto. With them, she has had the opportunity to perform in Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington DC, and Las Vegas. She is also one half of the comedy dance duo, Giggle Queens. Whose Bollywood fusion pieces have been showcased two years in a row at the largest South Asian festival in Canada, Bollywood Monster Mashup.
Ria is a part-time faculty member at Centennial College as well as a lead educator for Moving Edgeucation and Experience Groove. In schools all over the Greater Toronto Area she facilitates community building sessions for students, as well as, professional development workshops for teachers focused on the use of dance and movement in the classroom.
Ria believes that dance is a medium that allows people of all ages to connect while building confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Ria looks forward to building these connections with the Gerrard East Community through both the Bhangra classes and various camps.
